Village Halls Week

In celebration of #villagehallsweek our very own poet and esteemed colleague, Emilie Lauren Jones has penned us a few verses to explain why we love village halls.

Welcome to our Village Hall

Drive slow sign, winding road,

tapestry hedges, flower beds,

Brasso-ed plaque, sandstone wall,

black-out curtains, open door –

Welcome to our Village Hall!

Betty’s cakes, Slimming World,

home-brew wine, crisps in bowls,

Zumba stars, cupcake stall,

wobbly tables, embroidered cloth –

Welcome to our Village Hall!

Dog aerobics, oasis foam,

Bernard laughing, bingo call,

Mic check, guitar string strum,

patterned curtains, notice board –

Welcome to our Village Hall!

Arjun’s tales, library shelf,

raffle tickets, CD sale,

lace-up dance shoes, disco ball,

shaking hands, wedding bows –

Welcome to our Village Hall!

Committee meeting, biscuit box,

Nursery rhymes, lolly pops,

Sepia photos, remembrance wall

Pushchairs, trolleys, heels, plimsoles –

Welcome to our Village Hall!

Chinking glasses, matching napkins,

Bin bag clear-ups, clatter, chatter,

Thank you speeches: ‘to one and all!’

new friends, old friends, everyone –

Welcome to our Village Hall!
