Introducing Lovely Laura!

I am Laura, the Fieldworker for Staffordshire and Derbyshire and I am delighted to be starting this new adventure with Live & Local!

I originate from the lovely land of Yorkshire (Leeds) and have been involved in the arts from a young age (surely building treehouses and performing for your family and neighbours count right?!)

I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2014 after studying Contemporary Theatre and Performance and upon finishing University I was offered an internship to work within the busy Axis Arts Centre based in Crewe which housed a variety of contemporary dance and theatre performances.

In this time I also became the volunteer coordinator for Flare Festival, a large contemporary arts festival in the centre of Manchester showcasing work from international artists.

I like to perform and have worked on live art and durational performances in collaboration with the West Yorkshire Theatre Network and my own company, touring work in local areas.

My role just before becoming a fieldworker with Live & Local was as a Creative Life Coach at the YMCA where I was responsible for supporting young people with a range of needs including mental health, housing and counselling support. Being a creative life coach also meant that I was responsible for developing arts opportunities within the hostel and local community.

Outside of work I am currently working towards my level 3 qualification in Counselling. I love being outside and you will more likely than not find me drinking tea, walking in the countryside and cooking up curries.
