We’d like to welcome one of our most newest promoters, Uttoxeter Town Council. They are currently promoting their first show, Badapple Theatre Company’s ‘The Carlton Colliers’, which will take place this week on Thursday 7 November.
Uttoxeter – certainly a name to conjure with and one you’ve probably heard of but are not quite sure where it is. It is actually a small market town on the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border not that far from Alton Towers. It’s possibly most famous for horse racing but equally well known for being the home of JCB diggers and Fox’s biscuits (the malted milk was made here!) Originally Uttoxeter had an even odder and more difficult to pronounce name than it has now, it was first recorded in the Doomsday book as Wotocheshede, Wot meaning homestead on the heath.
The lovely Grade II listed Town Hall on the High Street was refurbished last year, in time for the Queens Diamond Jubilee. The Town Councillors are encouraging the use of the Ballroom for cultural activities and in turn joining the Live & Local network.
Badapple Theatre are regulars on the Live & Local circuit and renowned for their feel good shows, which always draw a good crowd. ‘The Carlton Colliers’ is a quirky comedy, about small town life, love and a little bit of football, it’s about dreaming big in an old pit town where there’s nothing to do, and the daft things that happen when you do. Featuring a soundtrack from multi award-winning musician/composer, Jez Lowe (who also features in our Autumn programme with his band the Bad Pennies) and stars BBC Waterloo Road’s Robert Angell. Written and directed by Kate Bramley, founder of the Badapple Theatre Company, and former Associate Director with the acclaimed Hull Truck Theatre Company this show is sure to be a treat.
