It would appear that some do, indeed, like it hot as our first screenings in Warwick town were fit to burst in a very successful ‘award-winning’ launch for Big Picture Show Warwick.
The beautiful Lord Leycester Hospital, which has itself had a number of starring roles onscreen, played host to two full houses, and we even had to turn a few people away! The audience laughed along with Marilyn Monroe and her bosom companions in timeless classic Some Like It Hot, while Romeo + Juliet stepped up the romance and reminded us all how tough things were before mobile phones.
The event was a launch for regular screenings that will take place in Warwick’s Court House from December. Big Picture Show is on the look out for local people who wish to get involved in choosing future films, promoting the events and selling tickets. We had a very enthusiastic response on the day but if you missed the chance to hear about how to become a part of such an exciting project then worry not – just head to www.bigpictureshow.org.uk and sign up to our mailing list.
We’d like to offer our thanks to the Mayor of Warwick, Cllr Bob Dhillon, who opened proceedings with a fantastic speech, and to the local tapas bar, Catalan, whose complimentary refreshments were quickly snapped up.
The event was part of the inaugural Warwick Rocks Food and Film Festival and we were delighted to be presented with an award for ‘Best Fringe Event’ at a ceremony held at Warwick Castle last week. There are Festival events still taking place so don’t miss out on screenings of hit movies including Top Gun and The Princess Bride in the Market Square, Chocolat (with chocolate desserts) at Warwick Arms Hotel, outdoor screenings at Warwick Castle and twilight markets offering the finest street food.
