Communities in the rural areas of Warwick District and Rugby Borough are enjoying the benefits of a wide range of exciting arts projects taking place across the area as a result of Arts on our Doorstep, a scheme funded by the Central Warwickshire Villages LEADER programme.
Arts on our Doorstep was launched in September 2010 with the aim of enabling local people to organise small arts projects within their communities by offering practical advice and support alongside resources up to the value of £5,000. The scheme is a partnership between Live & Local and Warwickshire County Arts Service with Warwick District Council & and Rugby Borough Council’s Arts Development Services.
More than 10 projects have already been approved involving a wide range of artforms including animation and multimedia, film making, mural, visual arts and music. Some projects will enhance and develop existing arts activities and others are completely new initiatives. Examples include supporting the delivery of stop motion animation workshops for primary school children, helping a village arts festival to purchase new display equipment and to reach a wider audience, enabling a history group to work with a professional film maker to create a DVD about the history of their village, helping a village art group to install permanent frames in their village hall to display work to a wider audience and a multimedia project which will allow a village youth group to work with professional artists.
All of the projects have been developed and organised by groups from within rural communities and focus on using the arts to bring communities closer together and creating a lasting legacy of skills for the benefit of local people.
